Afterschool dice club3/18/2023 +1 - I don't mind if characters in slice of life anime try something new/engage in activities not commonly seen in anime +1 - looking for a slice of life setting that, next to hobbies, also deals with daily problems and interactions in school 2 - cute-girl anime mustn't feature any males in order to be enjoyable +1 - rather innocent and curious girls are someone I enjoy watching +2 - I value the depiction of a growing friendship Once you reach the end of the board, your final score will determine the outcome of the game/review. On each spot, you decide whether or not you agree with the statement written on it, and if you do, add or subtract the respective points to your personal score. You control the pawn and move it forward on the board, one step at a time. The rules are simple and straightforward. Prepare a way to note or remember your personal score (which starts at zero), place the decision board in front of you, and the pawn on the first spot. After making the three girls meet in said shop, the main bulk of our game (and the actual anime) commences. The remaining unlocked models are now added to the mix (the board game shop+manager and the class representative girl named Midori). As trivial as it might sound, this quest is an adventure to learn about fun and friendship. Initiate their starting situation by allowing them to meet, which results in them starting a quest that they'll try to achieve for the foreseeable future. Prepare the game by taking the two models of the introverted (Miki) and the cheerful (Aya) highschool girls out of the game box. > locked boxes to be opened when instructed > models of 3 girls, board game shop, manager > Playing time: 5 minutes, potentially leads to another game of 276 minutes > original story and art by Nakamichi Hiroo (this review is structured and meant to be read as if it was a board game manual) On the whole, it’s not the best anime, and it really wouldn’t be very interesting unless you’re a habitual watcher of slice-of-life or have a love of board games, but I do recommend it if you want something positive, wholesome, and heartwarming.Friendship through the power of board games - a board-gamified review of Houkago Saikoro Club I also found all of our characters incredibly lovable, and the emotional journey that our main character Miki goes through is actually very heartwarming. Yes, this does make the series a little dull, like watching a playtest for a board game on youtube, but as someone who likes board games, that was just fine for me. The best part is that they’re playing actual games that anyone could purchase online or at a games store. Thankfully, the series really was nothing more than friends playing board games together. It’s anime right? Competition anime always is filled with drama. However, it’s simply adorable.īeing an anime, I was initially thinking that the series was going to be about fake board games hyped-up in an incredibly dramatic fashion. I’m not as intense of a fanatic as Midori, but I certainly do love any kind of tabletop game or card game, so seeing an anime surrounding board games just made me really happy.Īfter School Dice Club is a pretty typical slice of life, it doesn’t really break much new ground in characterization or in narrative, and on the whole it’s incredibly simplistic. In preface, I have to say that I love board games. After School Dice Club got the postponement, but I’m so glad I watched it. I’ve watched enough anime to get a sense of which ones are going to be entertaining enough to sit through subtitled and which ones I’d rather wait and watch when I can multitask, and without much time on my hands normally, I have to make those decisions. I’d originally skipped this during the 2019 season, saving it on my later column for when it was dubbed.
